Here comes my favourite part! What to eat in İzmir? Honestly, there are so many delicious things to try 🙂 Known as the capital of Aegean cuisine, İzmir offers seafood, vegetable dishes, mezes, and many other tasty meals. Here are some dishes you must try when you visit İzmir:

  • Boyoz: A staple of İzmir breakfasts, boyoz is a light, flaky pastry often topped with sesame seeds.
  • Gevrek: Instead of simit, İzmir locals enjoy gevrek. Made with chickpea yeast, it’s eaten at breakfast or as a popular street food.
  • Kumru: A famous delicacy from Çeşme, kumru sandwiches are filled with ingredients like meatballs, spicy sausage, and melted cheese — perfect for a filling meal.
  • İzmir Köfte: Made with bulgur, onion, parsley and spices, these meatballs are usually grilled and served with yoghurt and salad.
  • Kokoreç: Also popular in İzmir, kokoreç is lamb intestines seasoned with spices and cooked over embers.
  • Şevketi Bostan: A favourite of Mediterranean cuisine, this dish is often prepared with olive oil or meat and widely enjoyed in İzmir.

  • Fresh Seafood: With its coastal location, İzmir is ideal for fresh seafood. You can find delicious seafood dishes in the city’s many fish restaurants.

How to Get to İzmir?

The fastest and most comfortable way to get to İzmir is by direct flights from major cities to Adnan Menderes Airport. From the airport, you can easily reach the city centre by Havaş buses, taxis, private transfers, or the metro.

If you prefer to travel by bus, there are regular services to İzmir from many cities across Turkey. This is a budget-friendly option. However, I think the most convenient way is to come by car. With routes like the Istanbul-İzmir motorway, travelling is quite straightforward. Since İzmir’s attractions are spread out, having your own vehicle is a big advantage, allowing you to go wherever you want, whenever you want.
